Family Engagement

CHSC proudly supports family engagement. CHSC has a long history of employing family support professionals, also known as Parent Consultants, Parent Partners, and Family Navigators. For decades, CHSC has advocated for increasing the role of families in Iowa's System of Care for children and youth with special health care needs. CHSC hired Julie Beckett as Iowa's first Family Navigator over 30 years ago and now employs 35 Family Navigators located in 14 community-based Regional Centers across Iowa.

Iowa Family Leadership Institute - 2018

Parents and primary caregivers of children/youth with special health care needs ages 3 to 19 years old, living in Des Moines or western Iowa (west of Interstate 35) are invited to participate in a special leadership training. The goals of this training are to:

  • Understand how to work with partners
  • Become aware of one's own path to leadership
  • Discover strategies for advocacy
  • Prepare a Community Service Project

Cost is $100 per person. Scholarships are available.

In person trainings will be held on the following dates:

  • September 7-8, 2018
  • October 5-6, 2018
  • November 2-3, 2018
  • December 1, 2017

Participants will also develop service projects with the support of experience family leaders.
